The Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen (Royal Tropical Institute) is located at the Oosterpark, in the middle of Amsterdam – East. For more than 80 years, the monumental building has been one of the iconic buildings in Amsterdam. The building is characterized by an exuberant neo-Renaissance style and by numerous decorations that refer to different world cultures and Dutch colonial history.
Besides being a beautiful event location, KIT also consists of the Tropenmuseum and De Tropen café and restaurant. The Amsterdam Tropen Hotel, located on the other side of the courtyard, is also a part of the Royal Tropical Institute.
Besides being an event location, KIT Royal Tropical Institute is an independent centre of expertise, education, intercultural cooperation and hospitality dedicated to sustainable development. Based on a national heritage site in Amsterdam, KIT focuses on key areas where it can make a difference: healthcare, gender and agriculture.
