Joseph Antonius Verbunt, a wine importer, laid the foundation for Verbunt Wijnkopers in 1844. He moved from Bergeijk to Tilburg to establish a business in wine, spirits, and tobacco. The subsequent generations of the Verbunt family conducted successful operations as wine importers and in distilled beverages. Frans C. H. Verbunt represented the 5th generation of the Verbunt family from 1991. On July 8, 2010, he sold his shares to another family-owned company: Salentein Company, owned by Mijndert Pon.

The majority of Salentein products are distributed in over 40 countries.
